Between Borders is presented as part of FotoFest, an internationally recognized collaborative art project. Cultural Center Our Texas, a proud long-standing FotoFest partner, celebrates FotoFest’s 40th anniversary and is honored to host this exhibition for the Houston community.
Between Borders is a vivid visual journey into the lives of people caught between war and refuge. Through striking portraits and documentary scenes, Alena Grom captures the fractured realities of displacement and the quiet strength of those living in the shadow of conflict.
Her photographs portray civilians rebuilding bombed homes, children fleeing with their families, and elderly survivors experiencing war for the second time in their lives. These deeply personal stories speak to resilience, resistance, and the enduring human spirit.

Each image serves as a window into personal endurance as individuals cross borders—physical, emotional, and social.
