Stanislav Panin, PhD, who previously did his research at the Archives of the Impossible, a collection of primary sources about the paranormal hosted by Rice University, will tell about his study of the Soviet milieu of paranormal investigators and their exchange with American counterparts.

The lecture will focus on Soviet interest to telepathy and UFOs, both in fiction and in real life, and on the role of these topics in Soviet culture.

We will discuss how the paranormal appeared in Soviet cinema and science fiction as well as the ways in which fringe interests attracted Soviet scientists and engineers working in cutting-edge fields, such as space science and cybernetics.
