This exhibition commemorates the life and legacy of Boris Kaplun, a beloved Houston-based painter and scenic designer, who passed away earlier this year. Kaplun’s name holds a special place in the visual arts community, both in Houston and abroad. He was not merely a master of his craft—he was a soul with a heightened sensitivity to life, a poetic gaze, and a rare ability to reflect deep truth through his art.
The exhibition showcases a selection of paintings and graphic works spanning several decades, many of which will be on display for the first time. Through this collection, visitors are invited to experience the continuing presence of the artist—a living testimony to the world he saw.
Kaplun was born in Moscow and studied at the Moscow Fine Arts Academy, where he specialized in painting and scenic design. After relocating to Houston, he became an influential figure in the city’s theater scene, designing over fifty productions for companies such as Main Street Theater, Stages Repertory Theatre, Theater LaB, and The Musical Theatre of Houston.
“Presence” is not only an exhibition—it is an expression of gratitude to an artist, a friend, and a man who gave so much to the cultural fabric of Houston.
Admission is free. All artworks on display will be available for purchase.
The gallery is open Monday to Friday 9:30 am – 3 pm, Saturday 9 am – 2 pm, Sunday – 9 am – 2 pm.
