The London Times called her a “pianist of powerful physical and imaginative muscle.” Tanya Gabrielian won the Scottish International Piano Competition and the Aram Khachaturyan International Piano Competition back to back at age twenty, and she has since performed on five continents. Her venues include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Sydney Opera House, Wigmore Hall and the Salle Cortot. She has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
This program is built around transcription, where one composer’s music is reimagined through another’s imagination:
- Béla Bartók: Suite, Op. 14
- Johannes Brahms: Theme and Variations, Op. 18b
- Manuel de Falla: Fantasía bética
-intermission- - César Franck (arr. Alfred Cortot): Violin Sonata in A Major (transcription)
Gabrielian’s Southbank debut was named “Performance of the Year” by Seen and Heard International, and her album Remix: Bach Transcriptions was Album of the Week on radio stations in Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
